    Matthew Johnson

    COO, Co-Founder
Matt’s passion for sustainable transportation began when he fell in love with bicycles as a child. After graduating cum laude from the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, Matt biked across the country then returned to open BioWheels, Cincinnati’s first mountain bike shop in 1993. He opened a second location in Asheville in 1999 which steadily grew sales 20% annually. Combined, the 2 stores sold over 16,000 bicycles in 15 years. In order to accommodate the growing business, Matt designed and built the first commercial green building in WNC in 2007. This process expanded his understanding of renewable energy and sustainable building concepts and propelled him to further explore electric transportation options. His customer service, construction management and entrepreneurial background prepare him to effectively facilitate public-private partnerships, and manage projects and vendor relationships.
